This is Daniel M.

Daniel is a Senior Project Manager and one of four team members who form our Operations Team. He loves to see a construction plan come to life – from winning a project to handing over on completion…

The role
I started at Maben 11.5 years ago, fresh out of school, and worked as a Contract Administrator whilst studying. From there I progressed over the years into my current role as Senior Project Manager. I currently oversee two projects – Highpoint Aesthetic Upgrade & Porsche VW Training Facilities at Essendon Fields – and I am a part of the Operations Team, managing the day to day operations of Maben Group.

What do you love about your role?
Seeing a plan come to life – from winning the project to opening day.

What has been one of your favourite projects?
Collaborating with the Australian Prostate Centre (APC) for a second time to deliver their state-of-the-art Australian Medical Robotics Academy (AMRA). The Robotic Surgical Training Facility is equipped with the latest robotics simulators, designed to train the surgeons of tomorrow in a safe environment before entering live surgery.

My team worked closely with APC on a Construction Management Contract, to demolish and refurbish 500sqm Level 7 of 14-20 Blackwood Street, North Melbourne. The facility includes two simulated operating theatres, two mentor suites, a centralised collaboration room and a multi-use break out space.

Access restrictions added to the complexity of the project with larger items such as the large robotic equipment requiring to be craned into the building through the 3rd floor façade. Project Duration: 6 months

Which past project have you found the most challenging?
Wendouree Shopping Centre. The project required extensive demolition of the existing Woolworths, loading dock, carparks and neighbouring houses.

Three staged handovers were required to enable reconfiguration of the existing malls and completion of the demolition works. The expansion included the new build of 7000m² retail space, comprising of a new Woolworths, BWS, 22 specialty tenancies, four kiosks, two new shopping centre entries, reconfiguration and construction of new carparks and new carpark entry on Norman Street.

Internal aesthetic upgrade works of the live trading centre were also completed with new mall tiling works, revised signage, extensive services upgrades and two new playground spaces were created. Access into the shopping centre was maintained at all times via a customer tunnel to limit impact on the shopping centre tenants with loading dock and carpark access remaining functional throughout the build. The large and complex project was successfully completed in 11 months.
