Located in the heart of the new Aurora Community, just 3.5km north west of the Epping Town Centre, the Aurora Community and Activity Centre (CAC) is the first of many developments that are being undertaken by Places Victoria, in a bid to cater for an ever growing population. Commissioned by Places Victoria and the City of Whittlesea, the Centre comprises of a childcare centre/kindergarten, a maternal health centre, planned activity spaces and community centre.
The architectural design for the Aurora CAC was completed by The Buchan Group, accompanied by The O’Neill Group providing services and structural design.
The single level brick structure incorporates a large steel truss roof frame, providing mounting capacity for external PV solar panels and facilitating large clear span internal spaces with cathedral ceilings. Curved plaster ceilings, cork wall linings and feature glazed brickwork all required a high level of quality and workmanship.
The Aurora CAC site covers 5200sqm and is designed for flexible use by various stakeholders and community members and incorporates the following facilities:
• Three individual kindergarten rooms with outdoor play ground comprising of sand pits, timber decks, vegetable gardens, swings, shade sails, digging patches & worm farm
• A 200sqm main hall for community use with commercial kitchen facilities for event catering
• Maternal Child Health Clinic with 2 consulting rooms and a program activity room
• Planned Activity Group Facilities with 2 activity rooms and stand-alone kitchen facilities
• Community meeting rooms
• Community Book Lounge
