APCR Prostate Cancer Centre
- Client: Australian Prostate Cancer Research
- Architect: Bates Smart
- Date: 2015
The eighth floor of 14-20 Blackwood Street in North Melbourne, has been completely transformed to become the nation’s first dedicated facility for men with prostate cancer and related health issues.
This project is unique in that its development was dependent on construction companies donating their time and their materials. This is something that Maben Group, amongst various other construction companies, were more than happy to contribute to in support of a very important cause.
This revolutionary health clinic has been designed to appeal to men. The reception area has wi-fi access so clients can check their emails, an available meeting room in case a client has business to attend to, and comfortable furniture. The design is steering clear of anything that appears sterile or drab, in an effort to make men feel comfortable and at home. The clinic will be open to the general public to attend.
The centre has ten consulting spaces, all purpose fitted to address a range of possible issues such as prostate cancer testing, and physiotherapy. There is a gym with monitoring equipment, which allows physiologists and health staff to work with patients to help improve their physical condition. Importantly, there is a state-of-the-art tissue banking and laboratory facility, which ensures all tests, samples and biological materials can be preserved and analysed as required.
