Located within the grounds of University of Melbourne’s Victoria College of Arts in Southbank, Maben has successfully delivered the Buxton Contemporary Art Gallery project which is a purpose built facility to house the artwork from the Michael Buxton Collection, as well as to feature new and upcoming artist exhibitions.

The design and construct project involved the extensive reconstruction and refurbishment of the former Heritage Police Stores and integration of a new two storey building. The building offers spaces for separate exhibition galleries, a pre-function and reception area, a teaching seminar room, staff offices and amenities, and art storage facilities.

Maben worked closely with a project team consisting of Fender Katsalidis Architects, Lucid Consulting Services Engineers, MTO Structural Engineers, and RBA Heritage Architects to restore the original existing heritage elements, realise the new architectural intent, and comply with the stringent performance requirements of Class AA Gallery.

The new building stands proudly next to other Melbourne landmarks such as the NGV, Arts Centre, and the Melbourne Recital Centre.
