Coles Group Property Developments appointed Maben Group under a Design and Construct contract to manage the delivery of the first of their new ‘Coles Local’ Concept Stores in Surrey Hills.

The supermarket development involved the demolition of a series of smaller shops, while retaining the heritage façade. Conservation works were undertaken to restore elements of the façade to its 1935 appearance, and integrate it with the new façade and structure.

Major excavation works within a very restricted site were required to make way for construction of the two level basement carparking.

The construction of the 1280sqm Coles supermarket included sustainability initiatives such as an ORCA food digester, refrigeration with a closed water loop system and energy efficient design. Maben was also involved in the development of a new lighting concept, which achieves a significant point of difference both environmentally and aesthetically.

Maben commenced the construction of Coles Surrey Hills in August 2017, and the project was delivered on time and on budget in November 2018.
